Easy Fishtail Plait Tutorial

Plaits/braids are one of my favourite ways to style my hair, as it can be so simple and almost always guarantees your hair will stay out of your face for most of the day. Plus they look really good, and there are so many different types so it is easy to make yours unique to you. Here are some photos of my favourite plaited hairstyles.

Pretty, fall braided 'do.        A CUP OF JO: Half-up braided crown

Below I will show you how to do a 'fishtail plait'. One of the most basic and easy to wear plaits. Once you get the hang of it it only takes 5 minutes, so is a great style to be able to do when you are running late.

  1. First decide where you would like your plait to lay, to the side, over your shoulder or down your back. For beginners it's easier to learn when you plait to the side, this way you can see what you are doing more easily.
  2. Separate your hair into two equal sized sections.
  3. Take an approx. half inch section from the outside of the left ponytail.
  4. Pull this piece over the left ponytail and connect it with the right ponytail.
  5. Now take a piece from the right ponytail.
  6. Bring it over the right ponytail and into the left section of hair.
  7. Repeat this process until you get to the desired length.
  8. Don't worry if the plait is messy, it just add to the beachy, effortless look.
  9. Tie the ends with a clear elastic.
  10. Pull at the plait a little bit if you want to go for the more messy looking braid like the picture above.

The Beauty Department created a nice video, showing you how to do a fishtail plait too, if you find it easier to follow by watching it.

I hope this was helpful and you can enjoy doing beautiful fishtail hairstyles.

My Favourite Spring Trends

Spring is here and the trends are beautiful. I would love to be following all of them, if only I had the money. Below are some of my favourite street style photos from Pinterest with ideas on how you could incorporate the Spring trends into your own style.
Enjoy!

Pastel Pink.

Hair chalk is a great way to get a temporary die in your hair, the same effect as dye without the commitment.
Pink was seen on the catwalk for multiple designers, this photo is model Cara Delevign for Burberry's SS14 collection.

RESORT 2014 Moschino / Moschino is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and kicked off the festivities with an extravaganza in Shanghai that included a runway showcase of the new Resort collection. It was a moment for the Italian label to focus on future expansion into the crucial Asian market, as well as a time to reflect upon the house's history. The new lineup captured the significance of both.

This is my favourite trend as I am not one to wear much colour. Catwalk photo is from a 2014 Moschino collection.

All White.

It's just something about white nails

Spring 2014 Ready-to-Wear 3.1 Phillip Lim / Phillip Lim got deep into geology this season. And when asked, after his show, what got him so interested in the earth and its elements, the designer replied, simply, "standing on solid ground." Hmm. The comment was interesting not only because it was pretty opaque but also because the thing Lim got at really well in this collection wasn't earthen solidity but flux.

Painting your nails is a great and fun way to wear trends, if you have the time or patience to wait for them to dry. Catwalk photo is from Philip Lim's SS14 collection.

That is the end of my first proper post, hope you found this interesting or helpful.

Intro.

So, this is my first blog post. I have always wanted to make a blog but never felt quite confident enough but for an English project in school we were asked to create a blog ourselves so it was the perfect opportunity. I have always been interested in fashion for as long as I can remember so this will be a great outlet for me to share all of that with whomever comes across this little blog. I might also delve into other things that interest me at the time. I hope you enjoy reading this, my name is Megan and welcome to my blog,
